Candice did a PhD on bioinorganic chemistry at the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, under the supervision of Prof. Hongzhe SUN, focusing on the development of fluorescence-based methodology for studying metal-binding proteins and for the elucidation of the molecular mechanism of bismuth-based antimicrobials against Helicobacter pylori infection. With an interests to continue understanding bacterial infections in a cellular context, she joined the group of Jost Enninga in May 2016. Candice will focus on the molecular events during Shigella infections and the cytosolic escape of the pathogen.
