Samuel Donaire-Carpio is a PhD candidate in Molecular Virology at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, where he is part of the Pasteur-Paris University (PPU) international doctoral program. His research focuses on applying high-throughput approaches—particularly mass spectrometry—to decipher the molecular interactions between bat-borne viruses and their reservoir hosts. As bats are key reservoirs for numerous viruses with zoonotic potential, understanding the molecular mechanisms behind their tolerance to viral infections is essential for shedding light on pathogen emergence and offers a unique opportunity to address infectious and immune-related diseases in humans.
Samuel has conducted research across several leading institutions in Europe, including the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa, the Centro Nacional de Microbiología-ISCIII (Spain), and the University of Konstanz (Germany). He holds a Master’s degree in Virology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2023–2024) and a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2019–2023), complemented by international studies at the Université de Paris.
