As a field epidemiologist with strong computational skills, Mirco aims at determining the extent and nature of spatial and temporal heterogeneity in malaria risk in a population in North-Eastern Cambodia and evaluating respective survey methods. For that purpose, he will implement and coordinate a cohort study in rural Cambodia.
Specific aims are…
1) …to determine demographic and social determinants of (spatially) heterogeneous transmission risk
2) …to investigate spatio-temporal patterns of malaria infection risk in adolescent and adult forest workers
3) … to develop spatially explicit mathematical models of malaria transmission under low endemicity and apply them to model different approaches to identifying and delineating pockets of residual transmission
