My project aims to better understand the complex genetic architecture of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). To that end, I am studying the population of the Faroe islands which are a genetic isolate where the genetic diversity is reduced because of their demographic history. This reduced genetic diversity helps me with the identification of risk and protective variants associated with ASD.
The main goal of my project is to identify novel genes and combinations of genes associated with ASD and to describe biological pathways associated with specific clinical features.
I’m using very high-density genotyping and Whole-Exome Sequencing to study the structure of the Faroese population and deleterious/protective mutations present in patients, parents and controls. My expertises are genetic of human complex traits, bioinformatics and population genetics.
