  • Evaluated the role of SIRT1 promoter gene polymorphism in the susceptibility and disease activity.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH : August 2007-December 2010 : Department of Genetics, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul Advisor: C.H.D. Bau, PhD and J.A.B. Chies, Ph.D. Project title: Genetic Analysis of genetic susceptibility to ADHD and autoimmune diseases.

  • Research in the Bau Lab: Investigation of DAT1 gene VNTR on ADHD susceptibility (Aug 2007 – Dec 2008)
  • Research in the Chies Lab: Analyzed the role of a 3’ UTR polymorphism in the HLA-G gene in the susceptibility of SLE, type I diabetes and systemic sclerosis (Mar 2009 – Dec 2010).

RESEARCH SKILLS

  • Protein based analysis/techniques: multi-parametric flow cytometry, ImageStream cytometry, intracellular flow cytometry, flow sorting, ELISA, Immunohistochemistry, Western Blot, Bradford assay.
  • DNA/RNA based analysis/techniques: PCR, Reverse Transcriptase PCR, Cloning.
  • Mouse: Oral gavage, intraperitoneal and subcutaneous injections, harvesting immune cells from various locations (thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, liver, bone marrow, peritoneal cavity and tumor), subcutaneous tumor growth monitoring, endotoxin tolerance experiments.
  • Immunology, cell culture and cell based assays: aseptic techniques of the following: general cell culture of cell lines and bone marrow derived macrophages and dendritic cells, cell isolation/depletions, mixed lymphocyte reactions, general microscopy, PBMC separation.
  • Bioinformatics: Analysis of TCGA datasets based on the effect of specific RNA expression, immune cell infiltration (xCell, CIBERSORT) and mutational load on overall survival using R.
  • Metabolic Analyses: Seahorse analysis of glycolytic and mitochondrial stress tests.
  • For all of the above: basic use of statistics, data analysis, and the ability to optimize/modify protocols as needed.
  • Strong familiarity with: Microsoft including Excel, Powerpoint, and Word, GraphPad Prism, FlowJo, FACS DIVA, IDEAS, EndNote.
