A little guide for advanced search:

  • Tip 1. You can use quotes "" to search for an exact expression.
    Example: "cell division"
  • Tip 2. You can use + symbol to restrict results containing all words.
    Example: +cell +stem
  • Tip 3. You can use + and - symbols to force inclusion or exclusion of specific words.
    Example: +cell -stem

We are looking for a project manager to contribute to the development of an international community of microbiological research and genomic surveillance on Klebsiella pneumoniae, a priority antimicrobial resistant pathogen. The job will involve animating the network and building contacts with collaborative stakeholders; organizing online or physical training events (e.g., conferences, tutorials, workshops), and some project management activities.

Context and objectives

The integrated platform for Klebsiella pneumoniae genomic surveillance is a bioinformatics infrastructure being developed jointly by Institut Pasteur (S. Brisse), Oxford University (D. Aanensen, K. Jolley) and the London School for Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (K. Holt). This development is funded for three years by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).

The objective of this platform is to provide to the scientific community (in academia, education, industry and public health sectors) with a unified genomic data storage and analysis system on the target pathogen. It will encompass analytical pipelines (e.g., Pathogenwatch), genomic nomenclatures of strains (see e.g., BIGSdb-Pasteur), antimicrobial resistance and virulence genes detection, species definition, antigen structures and resistance phenotypic prediction (e.g., Kleborate); as well as reporting and data visualization features, both for local epidemiology datasets and global strain diversity contexts.

The project manager will be in charge of optimizing the usage of the platform by collecting the needs of the users community, and developing dissemination and training activities.

Missions

– Community building: liaising with microbiologists, epidemiologists and public health actors in different sectors (clinical, food, veterinary) at the international level.

– To develop interactions with interested parties (public health agencies, funders including BMGF, international organizations and networks on antimicrobial resistance surveillance).

– To organize trainings on the genomic surveillance of antimicrobial resistance functionality of the platform; both online and physical; for global public Health / One Health actors and medical microbiology labs.

– To manage aspects of the project relevant to community building, training and research projects.

Profile

– Either PhD or post-doctoral experience, ideally in genomic epidemiology of pathogens; or professional with skills in international community animation and with demonstrated interest or knowledge of infectious agents’ surveillance.

– Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English (minimum C1 level). Knowledge of French will be important as well.

– Excellent communication skills; strong ability to produce both written and oral reports for communicating clearly and effectively to different target audiences.

– Experience in international scientific collaboration programmes, microbiology will be a plus.

– Informatics skills, especially MS office; web site editing would be a plus.

– Excellent teamwork capacity in a scientific environment.

– Capacity to fulfil specific objectives, to take personal responsibility and initiative for delivering high quality work, and to work under tight deadlines.

– Forthcoming and open minded. Comfortable to work into a multidisciplinary, international team; prepared to travel internationally when possible.

– Excellent organisational skills.

– Comfortable working in a multicultural environment, with a high level of transparency, work ethics and in close interaction with his/her colleagues.

Environment. The job will be hosted within the Brisse group at Institut Pasteur, Paris, France. The project manager will work under the supervision of S. Brisse and in close contact with the other PIs of the project (D. Aanensen, K. Holt), and their collaborators (e.g., microbiologists, bioinformaticians, epidemiologists, clinicians). Support from central administration services of Institut Pasteur (e.g., International Direction, Education Center, Association of Institut Pasteur International Network) will be provided.

Salary and contract. The monthly salary will correspond to the standards in France and will depend on the candidate’s experience. This is a fixed term contract, initially for 12 months, renewable until 36 months in total. The position is available from April 2021 or slightly later, depending of the selected candidate’s availability.

Application. Please send your application as a single pdf file to Sylvain Brisse (sbrisse@pasteur.fr) with a detailed CV, a cover letter and references.

Deadline. March 26th, 2021.
