A little guide for advanced search:

  • Tip 1. You can use quotes "" to search for an exact expression.
    Example: "cell division"
  • Tip 2. You can use + symbol to restrict results containing all words.
    Example: +cell +stem
  • Tip 3. You can use + and - symbols to force inclusion or exclusion of specific words.
    Example: +cell -stem

The dentate gyrus is one of the few mammalian brain regions where new neurons are generated throughout life. The image was taken with a confocal microscope from a parasagittal slice of the mouse hippocampus. Cells were labelled with fluorescent markers: Newly generated neurons are red (doublecortin), mature neurons are green (NeuN), and nuclei are blue (DAPI)

We are looking for a motivated postdoc to join our laboratory at the Institut Pasteur in Paris!

We are interested in how neuronal activity at the level of synapses, neurons, and neuronal circuits drives the formation of distinct memories and behavior. The aim of this postdoc project is to establish how distinct memory representations are formed at the cellular and circuit level in different hippocampal subregions, and how these representations are causally related to memory-guided behavioral decisions. The project will build on our core expertise of linking cellular computations with memory-guided behaviour, exploiting technologies that we have previously established such as in vivo whole-cell patch-clamp recordings, 2-photon imaging and stimulation, and virtual-reality behavioural tools (Allegra et al., 2020; Gomez-Ocadiz et al., 2021; Schmidt-Hieber & Nolan, 2017).

The Institut Pasteur in Paris offers an international, dynamic and stimulating scientific environment with more than 1500 researchers working in 11 Departments favouring multiple collaborations, and access to cutting-edge technological platforms.

Candidates should have experience in patch-clamp electrophysiology and/or 2-photon imaging. A proven track record in independent quantitative data analysis is required. Good communication skills in spoken and written English will be essential.

Interested candidates should submit their application with a detailed CV, a cover letter detailing skills and motivation, and contact information for 2/3 references to Christoph Schmidt-Hieber (christoph.schmidt-hieber@pasteur.fr).
