A little guide for advanced search:

  • Tip 1. You can use quotes "" to search for an exact expression.
    Example: "cell division"
  • Tip 2. You can use + symbol to restrict results containing all words.
    Example: +cell +stem
  • Tip 3. You can use + and - symbols to force inclusion or exclusion of specific words.
    Example: +cell -stem

A postdoctoral position is immediately available for an advanced scientist in the Auditory therapies innovation laboratory headed by Professor Christine PETIT at the Hearing Institute, an Institut Pasteur center, in Paris (France).

We are seeking an outstanding, highly motivated postdoctoral fellow for deciphering gene regulation and gene regulatory networks in the cochlea, the auditory sensory organ, with a view to developing innovative treatments for hearing impairment.

This is a 2 years funded position with a possible renewal of 1 year.

The Hearing Institute

The Hearing Institute is an interdisciplinary fundamental and medical research center promoting integrative approaches to basic auditory neuroscience, and developing innovative diagnostic tools, and preventive and curative treatments for hearing disabilities. The Hearing Institute brings together world-class researchers from various fields, including neurophysiology, computational neuroscience, auditory cognition, genetics and genomics, cell biology and therapy/rehabilitation. It is located in the center of Paris and includes a research center for innovation in human audiology, facilitating an efficient transfer of research advances to patients. The Hearing Institute provides an ideal framework for young scientists and for their training, with many fruitful collaborations between teams.

Mission

The cell-specific expression of therapeutic genes or editing of pathogenic variants will considerably improve the quality of inner ear gene therapy. To this end, it is necessary to acquire knowledge about the promoters and regulatory elements of the targeted genes and associated gene regulation networks, which are still in their infancy in the cochlea. The post-doc will approach this question by focusing on deafness genes specifically expressed in a given cochlear cell type and on deafness genes expressed in several cochlear cell types. The candidate sequences and genes obtained will then be validated in vivo.

The post-doctoral researcher will combine the identification of epigenetic signatures (DNA methylation, chromatin accessibility, ChIP-sequencing, and Hi-C conformation capture techniques) for the genes of interest and computational studies of new cochlear transcriptomic analyses.

Qualifications

– The candidate has obtained a PhD with a solid experience in molecular biology.

– He/She masters the basic concepts covering the current state of the gene expression and epigenetics fields

– An expertise in the characterization of regulatory elements controlling gene expression in eucaryotes would be highly appreciated, with experience in the use of at least some of the techniques mentioned.

– A basic knowledge of the inner ear biology will be appreciated.

We are looking for a creative, friendly and responsible person.

Application

Please submit a complete application, including a cover letter, a detailed CV, your list of publications and contact information for three referees, to:

–          Professor Christine PETIT, laboratory director: christine.petit@pasteur.fr

–          Muriel SUDRES, project manager : muriel.sudres@pasteur.fr
