We are looking for a young talented researcher for “omics” analyses of both B. pertussis isolates and immune responses during severe pertussis in infants, and their role on the occurrence of the fulminant form of pertussis, through the investigations of the following aspects:
- Bacterial transcriptomics profiling
- Functional studies of virulence genes on cellular infection models
- Microbial isogenic mutants and in vitro functional analyses
- Immune cell phenotyping
- Cytokines and chemokine secretion measurement
- Transcriptomics profiling of immune cells
Theses analyses will serve as a prerequisite for the identification of new candidate vaccine antigens to overcome the recent pathogen evolution and considering specific immune responses in infants.
Skills. Strong experience in microbiology and experience in immunology. Experience in transcriptomics will be appreciated. Experience in Bordetella pathogenesis will be appreciated but is not absolutely required as it will be provided by members of the lab. Innovative thinking, work autonomy and good communication skills are important. English speaking and autonomous manuscript writing skills are also necessary.
Environment. The candidate will work in the Brisse lab at Institut Pasteur (https://research.pasteur.fr/en/team/biodiversity-and-epidemiology-of-bacterial-pathogens/), under the supervision of Dr. Julie Toubiana (Associate Professor in Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Deputy Head of Bordetella National Reference Center, PI of the project) and in collaboration with the Center for Translational Science (https://www.pasteur.fr/en/center-translational-science).
Conditions. The monthly salary will correspond to the standards in France and will depend on candidate experience. The contract will initially be for 12 months, and possibly extended for 1 or 2 years. The position is available as early as November 2nd, 2022, although starting date can be delayed for a few months if the chosen candidate has agenda constraints.
Application: Please send your application as a single pdf to Julie Toubiana (julie.toubiana@pasteur.fr) with a detailed CV, a cover letter and recommendation letters.
Deadline: October 1st, 2022
