A little guide for advanced search:

  • Tip 1. You can use quotes "" to search for an exact expression.
    Example: "cell division"
  • Tip 2. You can use + symbol to restrict results containing all words.
    Example: +cell +stem
  • Tip 3. You can use + and - symbols to force inclusion or exclusion of specific words.
    Example: +cell -stem
e.g. searching for members in projects tagged cancer

The Institut Pasteur (IP) is committed to promoting open science and implementing the FAIR principles (to make data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable). To provide concrete support to the researchers of the Neuroscience Department and the Hearing Institute, we are recruiting a neuroinformatician / data steward (specialist in research data management). Researchers at the neuroscience department deal with datasets and pipelines for real-time signal processing and image analysis (microscopy, electrophysiology, genomics, EEG/MRI). The data steward will help them define standards to facilitate the implementation of the FAIR principles in their practices. The data steward will be attached to the data management core facility (7 people) and will work closely with the scientists of the Neuroscience Department and the Hearing Institute.

Missions:

  • Identify data types and standards relevant for researchers in neurosciences, and ontologies for metadata annotation via meetings with the different research units and a state of the art.
  • Define a strategy for the harmonization of practices, standards and tools adapted to data management in the context of the Institute
  • Define a strategy for the implementation of reproducible research, such as containerization, continuous integration, testing.
  • Participate in the development of tools and processes to improve the management, databasing, analysis and sharing of neuroscience data, DevOps
  • Accompany scientists towards open, FAIR and reproducible science (data and software codes): selection of reference repositories, advice on data management techniques facilitating sharing at the end of research projects
  • Work closely with the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to ensure that the strategy is in line with regulation (GDPR and others)
  • Collaborate in data management training for scientists and more generally in actions to raise awareness of best practices among researchers.
  • Set up collaborations with national and international actors in neuroinformatics and participate in their working groups (ICM Center for neuroinformatics, INCF, EBRAINS, Neurodata Without Borders…)

Profile:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, neuroinformatics/bioinformatics, with knowledge of neuroscience.
  • Experience or willingness to participate in open-source contributions, community, and engagement
  • Good knowledge of the data life cycle and best data management practices
  • Good knowledge of the research environment
  • Excellent organization, analytical and synthesis skills
  • Curiosity, team player, autonomy, and strength of proposal
  • Minimum level of C1 in English
  • As researchers uses different kind of programming languages and technologies, expertise, or familiarity with one or more of the followings will be a plus: Python (Scikit Image, Scikit Learn), R, MATLAB, C/C++, Bash/Unix, Git/GitHub/GitLab, databases (MySQL, MongoDB, Postgres), continuous deployment, unit/integration testing, containers (Docker/Singularity), High-performance computing (Slurm).
