The Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Hub at Institut Pasteur provides computational biology support to research units and platforms at the Institut Pasteur. Our mission is to:
- Collaborate on scientific projects submitted by research teams of our institute.
- Train scientific staff from Institut Pasteur Paris and the international network of Institut Pasteur.
- Develop tools and applications to be shared with the broader scientific community.
As the head of the Algorithmics, AI, and Mathematical Modeling group within the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Hub, the recruited engineer will focus on applying and developing innovative AI solutions for omics projects at Institut Pasteur. The candidate will oversee group management and be responsible for its project portfolio, working collaboratively with other teams from the Hub, the Technology Department, the Computational Biology department, and across the campus.
Key scientific activities:
Research and Technical Leadership:
- Form collaborative partnerships with research teams to drive the development of tailored AI methodologies for genomics.
- Contribute to the conception, development, and implementation of AI-based projects tailored to genomics.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in AI and deep learning methodologies, ensuring cutting-edge technical standards.
Methodological Development:
- Develop customed deep learning architecture and/or benchmark existing models tailored to specific OMICS applications (genomics, transcriptomics, single-cell multimodal analyses).
- Ensure the integration of the latest deep learning practices
Technical Collaboration and Networking:
- Attract and maintain collaborations with research teams within and outside Institut Pasteur.
- Ensure the seamless integration of technical methodologies into campus projects, fostering innovation and excellence.
Managerial activities:
Group Management and Leadership :
- Oversee the group’s collaborative project portfolio.
- Ensure the quality of work and scientific contributions from team members.
Administrative Management :
- Coordinate project planning, tracking, and resource management.
- Foster an open, collaborative work environment that supports professional development and workplace quality of life.
Strategy Contributions :
- Participate in the operational management of the Hub, contributing to strategic decision-making and implementation.
- Represent the group within the Technology Department and broader campus, aligning efforts with broader institutional goals.
Profile:
Educational Background :
- Ph.D./Master’s/Engineering degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Biostatistics, or a related field.
Experience:
- 10 years of experience in a biomedical research institute and/or industry in fields related to computational biology, biostatistics, applied mathematics, or bioinformatics.
- Experience with generic deep learning tools such as Keras, TensorFlow, and PyTorch; Hands-on experience with genomic foundational models such as DNABERT-2, Hyena DNA, nucleotide transformer, Evo2… or single cell genomics models such as ScGPT, ScBERT, Geneformer…
- Relevant expertise in deep learning, algorithmic approaches, and mathematical modeling applied to genomics. Demonstrable skills in developing custom neural network architectures applied to genomics and/or developing benchmarking strategies to evaluate model performance.
Leadership and Management :
- Strong leadership experience in group and/or project management in complex organizations.
- Ability to mentor and support the professional development of team members.
Language Skills:
- Fluency in English, with experience working in multilingual environments. Working knowledge of French is a plus.
Soft Skills:
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to manage complex and ambiguous situations.
- Creativity, innovation, and a focus on continuous learning.
