“Brain Representation and Control of Immunity”
Invited by Aleksandra Deczkowska
Abstract: The mind-body connection suggests that our thoughts and emotions can significantly impact our physiology. This link is particularly evident in how stress can lead to disease while placebo treatments can facilitate recovery. Nevertheless, our understanding of the mechanisms underlying these interactions is still limited. In this talk, we will explore how the brain represents the state of the immune system and how brain activity can regulate peripheral immunity to promote recovery from infections or cancer. We will also discuss how the brain can induce disease and psychosomatic disorders through its ability to control immune system activity. Gaining a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between the brain and the immune system and how it impacts our health and well-being paves the way to developing new approaches to harness the brain’s therapeutic potential.
