INSTITUT PASTEUR is searching for a new director of its Ultrastructural BioImaging (UBI) core facility. INSTITUT PASTEUR in Paris is one of the leading institutes worldwide in fundamental biology and biomedical research. It is home to more than 130 research groups with scientists from over 70 countries. Research at INSTITUT PASTEUR focuses on the areas of Infection Biology, Immunology, Developmental biology, Neurosciences, Microbiology and Structural Biology. Scientific language is English.
UBI focuses on ultrastructural electron microscopy research in cell biology, host pathogen interactions and fundamental questions in life sciences. UBI is one of the 20 technological platforms of INSTITUT PASTEUR, located on the campus downtown Paris. Equipment includes 3 TEM (120kV & FEG-200Kv with DD camera) and 2 SEM instruments for high-resolution 2D/3D morphological ultra-structural studies, with CLEM, FIB and STEM modalities. UBI plays a crucial role in the scientific life of the Institute, by providing state-of-the-art support to the needs of the Institute and its collaborators.
As head of UBI, you will lead a team of more than ten full-time permanent personnel with a background in life science and different aspects of electron microscopy. Your responsibilities will include fostering a stimulating working environment. You will pursue technological developments in ultrastructural imaging to address challenging biological questions, together with the research groups at INSTITUT PASTEUR. Multi-disciplinary and transversal approaches are encouraged, in collaboration with other facilities on campus, in particular those involved in microscopy (Cryo-EM and photonic imaging). You are expected to be involved in fund raising for the facility, and to participate in outreach activities.
Applicants must have a PhD degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Physics or Engineering, and should have an international reputation in the field of ultrastructural studies by electron microscopy, with a proven track record of publishing scientific and/or technological development work. Salary and benefits for this full-time permanent position will be commensurate with experience. INSTITUT PASTEUR is an equal opportunity employer. Applications must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, at least 2 recommendation letters, a summary of research accomplishments, and a statement of future plans for the facility. Applications need to be submitted by March 1, 2021 to Patrick TRIEU-CUOT (patrick.trieu-cuot@pasteur.fr) and Michael NILGES (michael.nilges@pasteur.fr).
